Hello, Bitcoin Gaming.

At Geyser, we’re on a mission to help Bitcoin builders and creators turn their ideas into reality. And today, we’re launching a new saga of creations related to Bitcoin gaming! 🎮

When we launched the Geyser alpha two months ago, we would never have expected over 20% of new campaign requests to come from the Bitcoin gaming community.

While talking to these creators, we heard all sorts of gaming ideas, from video and digital card games to table games, we sensed a deep passion about Bitcoin and its importance as a monetary technology that can move humanity in the right direction.

Passion compelled creators to build games that can tell Bitcoin’s story, explaining how it came about, how it works and why it matters.

And an understanding of the Lightning Network set these projects in motion — because gaming creators are truly excited about the potential offered by its super low fees, instant settlement, micro-transactions, and the amazing user experience that Lightning enables for gamers.

By enabling micro-transactions at low fees, the Lightning Network will offer a unique competitive advantage to gaming companies that adopt it. These advantages, in turn, will likely make them want to offer Bitcoin earnings and rewards through the play-to-earn model. While this once sounded like utopia, companies like Zebedee, THNDR, Satoshi’s Games, and Elixir are already showing the world that play-to-earn Bitcoin is very much a reality — and we look forward to seeing what gaming companies will follow their lead.

The Bitcoin Game Crowdfunds Coming Up

We’re happy to announce that three Bitcoin gaming projects will be released on Geyser in April:

  • The Bitcoin Board Game by @Bitcoin_phan, a board game that teaches about Bitcoin in a simple, fun hands-on way. Launching today (April 4th)! LIVE HERE!
  • Day Of Genesis by @tonimoral23, a play-to-earn deckbuilding game built on Lightning. LIVE HERE!
  • Lightning Rebel by @Distrito_P2E, a play-to-earn arcade game for mobile and desktop. LIVE HERE!

Crowdfunding Bitcoin Gaming

As described by Desiree Dickerson, CEO of THNDR, Bitcoin gaming offers a unique opportunity to onboard the world (3.1 billion gamers) onto Bitcoin because “gaming is the perfect onramp for people who never thought about Bitcoin. It’s a no-brainer.” (CoinDesk, @dickerson_des)

Add to that the possibility of tipping with micro-transactions through streaming (see Zebedee Streaming), and you have a plethora of new use cases for creators to explore.

And yet, with some many indie game builders in the Bitcoin community, we were left wondering: why do so few actually build them? We’ve narrowed the answer down to three main challenges they’re facing:

  • Giving visibility to their idea within the community
  • Building a community following around their idea that can provide guidance and feedback
  • Garnering financial support from the community to back the building of the idea

The lack of these financial and community tools is frustrating, and builders move on to other platforms and crypto applications — or give up on their ideas altogether. Geyser is here to change that by offering an alternative: a crowdfunding platform that unites the gaming community around Bitcoin Lightning to back up ideas they want to see happen in the world.
